Safety & Woods Working (SAWW) Training 101

Classes will be conducted by Luke Saunders, owner of Blue Heron Stewardship, LLC, Viroqua, WI. Mr. Saunders has been a SAWW certified chainsaw safety instructor for 12 years. Register at nifa.org. Level 101 has two sessions, September 18 and 19 from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm.
Level 101 is geared toward participants with little or no experience running a chainsaw, covering Level 1 material at a more deliberate pace over two full training days, in a supportive and dynamic setting. Topics covered include personal protective equipment (PPE), chainsaw safety features, reactive forces, body mechanics, and situational awareness. Also, starting, operating, and moving with a chainsaw, planning and executing tree felling, limbing, and bucking, and basic chainsaw maintenance. Bring your own lunch, chain saw, leather work boots, and gloves. If you have them, bring a safety helmet with face shield and hearing protection and chainsaw chaps. If you do not have any of the aforementioned, indicate so with registration/payment, and they will be provided or shared. $320/person.
