Nature Journaling with Watercolors Class

August 22 @ 9:00 am - 3:00 pm

Nature journalists like Darwin, Thoreau and Lewis & Clark all used visual expression along with words to convey in rich detail the natural world. In that tradition, the Jo Daviess Conservation Foundation (JDCF) invites you to learn about and practice the basic skills needed to visually express your experiences in nature. Master naturalist Pam Johnson will share techniques for drawing in black and white along with the use of watercolors. No experience is needed, and beginners as well as those with artistic training will benefit. The class will run from 9:00 am to noon, followed by an optional BYO lunch. Then, from 1 pm to 3:30, there will be an optional workshop outside in the prairie where you will be able to practice what you learned in class. A list of required supplies is here: Nature Journaling description 2026 (2)

Location is JDCF’s Hess House Center for Science and Culture, 1221 N. Ferry Landing Rd., Galena. Class size is limited to 14 people. RSVP’s required!  The class will be held rain or shine.

This event is proudly sponsored by the Apple River State Bank/First Community Bank of Galena.
