Coming from northern Wisconsin, Shawn moved to the Jo Daviess County area and fell in love with the driftless region. After working as a paraprofessional at Scales Mound school for two years, he was inspired to further his ability to be a mentor for students by going back to college and enrolled in Clarke University’s elementary education program. He graduated with an elementary education bachelors and a reading education endorsement in just two years and went on to work as a teacher for the Elizabeth Regional Alternative Program before coming to JDCF. Shawn’s goal with JDCF is to continue to inspire and mentor youths across the region to create future mentors as well as inspire and pass on his own love of wildlife and caring for this beautiful region.

Shawn’s passion for youth mentorship is bolstered by his love for his two sons, Archer and Jace, with whom he spends all his free time. He is supported by his loving wife, a Stockton native, Nicole and their dog Finn. He also spends his time hunting, fishing, gardening, and reading whenever possible.
