Fall Forest Walk & Tree ID Workshop

Fall is the perfect time for a walk in the woods. JDCF and the Northwest Illinois Forestry Association will co-host a tree ID workshop on Saturday, October 3, 2026 from 9 am – noon. The morning will begin under the picnic shelter at JDCF’s Schurmeier Forest.

During the first half of this workshop, tree experts will go over characteristics of native trees and shrubs using hands-on examples. This will be followed by a walk through Schurmeier Forest to identify trees together. The walk will take place over semi-rugged trails with some steep slopes. You are welcome to come for all or part of the program. Free for the whole family. RSVPs not needed. Event will be held rain or shine.
