SUMMARY:Explore Wapello Land & Water Reserve
DESCRIPTION:Depending on the heat index\, this event will move indoors following a brief walk. \nA thousand years ago\, Wapello was the site of a Native American village. Today\, it is mostly covered with a splendid\, restored prairie. You’ll view locations of the prehistoric cultural sites\, examples of the prairie’s many edible and medicinal plants – which tie past to present – and learn about the insect livelihood provided by the prairie. JDCF executive director Steve Barg is hosting this event. Our experts are Chris Boyd\, heritage preservationist with the Sac and Fox Nation; Ben Hoksch\, ecologist and edible plant expert; and master naturalist Pam Johnson who leads insect surveys. The prairie walk is on a mildly undulating\, mile-long trail. Wear long pants and comfortable shoes. Shade canopies and a water station will be provided for your comfort. Free to attend. RSVP to info@jdcf.org.
