SUMMARY:Ho-Chunk Nation Flute Making Workshop Dec. 6-7
DESCRIPTION:Since the beginning of time\, Indigenous cultures have utilized music as an integral part of life. One such instrument used by native peoples of this region is the courting flute. If you would like to learn about\, make\, and play your own flute\, please join Bill Quackenbush\, Tribal Historic Preservation Officer of the Ho-Chunk Nation\, during a two-day workshop. The workshop will be held at the Jo Daviess Conservation Foundations Hess House for Science and Culture at the Portage Preserve\, 1221 N Ferry Landing Road\, Galena\, IL. \nIt will begin on Friday\, December 6 from 5:30-8:30 PM and continue on Saturday\, December 7 from 8:00 AM – 2:00 PM. The cost is $150/person and includes materials needed to make the flute. Payment can be made day of or at www.jdcf.org. RSVPs required to Hillary Holt\, JDCF Director of Education and Outreach at hholt@jdcf.org. Please bring work gloves\, sack lunch\, and family stories to share.
