Buehler Preserve

Thanks to the generosity of former Galena Mayor Robert Buehler and his 1999 land donation, the Jo Daviess Conservation Foundation owns this 25-acre property.

The eastern portion of this parcel contains hilly woodland; the western portion, a flood plain that offers water filtration, flood storage, game and non-game habitat, a prairie restoration, and public open space in close proximity to the city of Galena. The Galena River Trail, a favorite of bikers, hikers, and dog-walkers, extends from the Meeker Street footbridge into the preserve. JDCF maintains a mowed trail around its perimeter. Camping is not permitted.
