JDCF & Murphy’s Gardens Welcome Spring with a Native Plant Sale

Murphy’s Gardens in Galena is once again hosting two native plant sales to benefit JDCF! The first will be April 26-28 and will feature spring/early summer blooming plants such as Virginia bluebells and shooting star.  The second on May 17-20 will feature summer bloomers such as prairie dropseed, common milkweed, and rough blazing star.  Cost: 4 or 4 1/2 inch pots/$6.75 each.  Fill your gardens with all local, all chemical free stock of seeds or plugs.  No pre-orders and all plants must be picked up at Murphy’s Gardens.

Why native plants?  Lots of reasons! Native plants are low maintenance, provide food and shelter for wildlife, add to your curb appeal, aid in water conservation, and help increase the diversity and overall populations of pollinators.

Proceeds from these sales will be used to help grow JDCF public preserves, such as community favorites Casper Bluff and Horseshoe Mound, while also helping people like you to plant biodiversity-friendly plants at home! Murphy’s Gardens is located at 12550 W Norris Lane, Galena.
