Entrance Road to Horseshoe Mound Now Paved!

We are sure that the entire community joins us in thanking all those who made it possible for us to
“Pave our Way to the Top” of Horseshoe Mound this past summer! Last year, JDCF and the Friends of Horseshoe Mound contacted University of Wisconsin/Platteville senior engineering students and asked them to give us options for improving the Horseshoe Mound access road.  In a presentation a few months later, the group presented their recommendations for improvements to the road that would minimize maintenance costs and improve the long-term performance of the roadway. Based on these findings, it was recommended that chip sealing the road near its top, adding drainage ditches, and improving the maintenance of culverts would extend the life of the road.

Once the plans were in hand, JDCF staff contacted long time Premier Partner, Vincent Earthmoving, to discuss options. Vincent Earthmoving, Louie’s Trenching, and Le Fevre Inn & Resort contributed time, materials, and dollars to make the upgrade of the road a reality. The Illinois Clean Energy Community Foundation and Libby and Ron Miller stepped up and contributed funding to complete the project. This is an incredible gift to the community, one that will make is easier for everyone to head to the top of the mound and share the view!
